Adsense Secrets

Pst! Wanna know some Adsense secrets? The only secret is that there are no secrets per se!

Do a search for Adsense secrets and you will be bombarded by a myriad of ads by trying to sell you the answers to making lots of money with Adsense.

Before you buy anything, my advise to you would be to do some research on a search engine and a bit of common sense. There are literally hundreds of forums where you can pick up valuable information, as well as hundreds of articles that have been written on the subject of Adsense.

Most of the answers are out there for you to find it you will put in a little bit of work. If you buy any of the ebooks available out there, you might find one little nugget of information that you may not have seen anywhere else, but I promise you: most of the time everything is out here on the Internet - all you have to do is search for it. Here are some of the search terms that I personally have used with great results:

adsense experiments
adsense adsense tricks
adsense tips

What I can tell you from my own experience is this:

1. Ads at the top of the page and on the left of the page perfom better than any other ads. (Take a look at the "heatmap" from the Google link below)

2. Ads without background colour and borders perfom better than ads within borders with background colour.

3. Ads within content pages perform better than any other ads.

4. A search box on every page gives you another chance for earning Adsense income.

5. A blue link at the top of the ad, the ad in black, and the url also in black so that it blends in with the ad copy - also tends to perform well. A black url makes the link stand out and gives you a better chance of someone clicking on it.

Google has brought out some great Adsense optimization tips. You can read it here: Google Adsense optimization tips

Experiment with your settings and see which brings you the best results. Google's reporting has become a lot better in the last month or so, so you should instantly be able to see which ads result in better CTR.

To increase your site traffic, which obviously will increase your Adsense income, the best way to get traffic is to have fresh content at your site. Write your own articles and submit it to article directories like Go Articles etc. To find more article directories, just do a search for "free article directory submissions" on a search engine like Google.

Another way would be to publish articles by other authors that are relevant to your site content. You can find free articles all over the web by once again doing a search for e.g. "free site content".

Do this on a regular basis and watch your traffic (and your income) increase.

Maximize Your Adsense Earnings

To maximize your earnings, it's not a matter of just slapping some adsense on your page and

hoping for the best - so lets look at it in a little more detail.... and see if there

really are any "Adsense Secrets"!

Click Thru Rate

The click thru rate (CTR) varies wildly between sites. Some are as low as 1% or less, while

others report as high as 50%.

Many websites operate on 2-3%, but what is a good average? From looking at various polls on the 'net,

I'm guessing that perhaps 1/2 to 2/3 of webmasters have a CTR of 5% or less.

I would say that roughly 10-15% should be quite achievable in many cases - which means a lot of websites have

the ability to perhaps triple their adsense income..

This will vary depending on your visitor profile - for example, teenagers are more likely to click on anything

that gets their attention, while webmasters/technical experts are LESS likely to click.

Relevant Ads

The first step to increasing earnings, is making sure that Google can place the most relevant advertisments possible

on your page. If your page title, headings, and content are clearly defined, then Google has a much

easier time deciding what ads to display. The more targeted the ads to your visitors interest, then then the more

likely they are to click. This is good SEO policy anyway, but don't overlook it's importance.

Ad Placement

Take a look at the Google heatmap. (you can read more about it here. https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=17954

The dark orange areas show the hotspots for ad placement. Try and stick to this map where possible, for

maximum effect.

The areas in white are low CTR spots....you will get less clicks with ads placed here,

although this is only a guide. If the layout of your page is such that the visitors eye is drawn to

these areas, then it may be worthwhile placing some ads here.

Don't feel that you need to load every hotspot on every page with adverts!

Low Paying Advertisers

Getting rid of low paying advertisers from your site will pay big dividends. These typically are the

"made for adsense" sites. I'm sure you've seen their ads - We Have Found The Top Ten Sites For.....

etc.

The way they work is that for an extremely low click price (maybe only a few cents)they entice your visitors

from your site to their MFA site, where they can offer them higher priced adverts.

I look on them as a parasite...they live off your hard work, but pay you virtually nothing for it.

So get rid of them! Google allows you to filter out and block specific URLs.

Follow these few simple guidelines, and you will almost certainly see an increase in your Adsense revenue.

Adsense Basics

Instead of a simple answer, you are overwhelmed by all the information out there and everyone claiming to be a guru and each one selling you stuff that probably is not all that great. By the way, not that there's anything wrong with it, but if they are as successful as they claim to be, why are they selling their "widely popular advice" at $147 a piece?

So how exactly do you make money online? Well, one of the most safe and easier ways to make money online is to use the Google Adsense program. What is adsense? Okay let me get back to the basics. When you go to google and enter for example travel as your search keyword google returns a list of results and on the right hand side there's normally a column that reads 'Sponsored Links'. These are ads that belong to advertisers that have bid on the keyword Travel using the Google Adwords program. I'll get back to this in a minute. Let me explain briefly what a keyword is and why it is so important.

When you visit any search engine, the words you type in when you are looking for something are called keywords. Search engines work on keywords to bring you back results that would best fit the words you typed in and they invest a lot of time, resources and money to make sure you get the results you want otherwise they would not be in business. For example if you search for Hawaii Holidays you would not want results on the anatomy of a female mosquito. Get the picture? So what does all this mean?

Back to google advertisers. Google advertisers sign up for a program called Google Adwords in order to run their ads on google. These ads are based on keywords so if I am a real estate agent and I'm advertising on google, chances are I have bid on the word 'property' as one of my keywords. So if someone searches for beach property, my ad is bound to appear in first, second, third position depending on how much I bid for the keyword and if I bid higher than my competitors. So what you may ask? So my dear adsenser, you can benefit from the Google Adwords program by signing up for the Google Adsense program. The Adsense program allows webmasters like you and me to monetize our website or blog and make money while we present a topic of interest to the web community.

Whenever someone comes to your site and finds your site as a 'best fit' for what they are looking for, they may find the ads on your site informational and click on them. However, the ads are meant to be focused and match your topic area in order to attract clicks. What happens when someone clicks on the ad? You make money online from your webpages! In a nutshell, it's that simple. However, many new adsensers suffer from the illusion that if you slap a couple of ads on your webpages then you should make tons of cash. The answer is you might make $5.00 in a month. There are quite a lot of tips and techniques that you will need to action on your webpages in order to see a real return from using Google adsense.

But do not be discouraged, this is a good program and yes there are a number of webmasters and online marketers who have made hundreds of thousands of dollars from using the google adsense program.

I'm a regular law abiding citizen and I've been using google's adsense program since early in 2005. I share regular advice and tips and techniques I pick up along the way to help other entrepreneurs with their goals when it comes to using the adsense program.
